FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WE'RE GLAD TO ANSWER:
What is a PIN?
What is a PIN?
For Presbyterian Churches, a Presbyterian Identification Number is the official number assigned to every Presbyterian entity by the Office of the General Assembly in Louisville, Kentucky. Every church in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has a PIN. When the denomination calls the roll, it is done by those numbers.
The Covenant Presbyterian Insurance Program (CPIP) makes use of your church or governing body PIN because CPIP provides property and liability through a master policy which has one master number for all our insured entities. For internal purposes, each church is identified by its own PIN. Mailings to church treasurers, review of your coverages, and your church’s place in our data base is handled in our data systems by use of that PIN.
Thanks for asking! And thanks for having that PIN available when ever you contact us!
Why does its presbytery have to join the CPIP program before a church can be covered?
Presbyterian governance is unique in the authority and responsibility which is placed in the session of a particular church, and in the presbytery which includes every church and ordained clergy in a defined geographical area. Presbytery establishes, reviews and closes churches, just as it ordains disciplines and dismisses ministers. Initiating coverage with the presbytery allows CPIP to deal with the ascending liability insurance principle, as well as assuring that church property held in trust for the mission of the denomination is adequately protected.
