STATE MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
California
California Vehicle Code Section 233(b) states a bus is “a vehicle designed, used, or maintained for carrying more than 10 persons, including the driver, which is used to transport persons for compensation or profit, or is used by a nonprofit organization or group, is also a bus.” In the event the vehicle is pulled over or involved in an accident, the driver will be cited and fined in accordance with California Vehicle Code Section 12500(d): “no person shall drive a motor vehicle or combination of vehicles that is not of a type for which the person is licensed.”
Driver Requirements for vehicles carrying more than 10-passengers:
- Class B Commercial Drivers License.
- Commercial ‘P’ Endorsement to transport passengers.
- Valid Medical Certificate, renewed every two years.
Idaho - Kansas- Nevada - New York- Oregon- West Virginia
Driver Requirements for vehicles carrying more than 15-passengers:
- Class C Commercial Drivers License
Texas
Driver Requirements are as follows:
- Class B Commercial Drivers License for vehicles designed to transport 24 or more passengers
- Class C Commercial Drivers License for vehicles designed to transport 16 to 23 passengers
- Commercial ‘P’ Endorsement to transport passengers
Alaska - Florida- Maryland - Massachusetts Minnesota - Missouri - New Hampshire - Washington
Driver Requirements for vehicles carrying more than 15-passengers:
- Class C Commercial Drivers License
- Commercial ‘P’ Endorsement to transport passengers
