Nursery School/Day Care Coverage

Day nursery schools, preschool programs or day care centers are included in the CPIP Master Policy coverage, provided that the Session and Trustees have direct responsibility for and control over the policies and employees of the program. All employees and volunteers serving in these programs must have a current evaluation from an employment background investigation process for sexual offenders and criminal records in state and national databases. CPIP has contracted with Choice Point for the provision of these services at discounted rates. See Background Investigation for more information.

Day Care Policies and Procedures

Every church needs to be especially careful in protecting the children under its care.  Minimum standards for that care include all of the following:

  • There should be one adult for every four children under two years of age, and at least one adult for every eight children over two years of age.
  • The minimum age for child care should be two years and nine months.
  • Children must have physical examinations before starting nursery school.
  • The playground area must be fenced in, and an adult must always be present.
  • The playground equipment should be for the age group attending the nursery school.
  • A soft, clean and dry surface on which to play is essential at all times and should follow the guidelines provided at Playground Safety.
  • Only parents or persons designated in writing by each parent may pick up a child.
  • Parents should sign their children in and out.
  • General diet, health and personal information considerations of each child should be on file, and kept current.
  • Children with specific allergies must be tracked properly; medication must be on hand at all times, with adults capable of administering care.
  • The child care facility should have an open design, with no unobservable, private space where children may be abused or molested.
